RAB-4 has arrested one Sirajul Islam, 39, who was sentenced to death in the murder case of Julekha, 19, at Singai in Manikganj after 19 years. He was arrested from Char Syedpur area of Narayanganj on Wednesday night.
This was stated by RAB-4 Commander DIG Mohammad Mozammel Haque at RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar on Thursday (June 23).
According to RAB, Sirajul and Julekha got married in 2002. After the marriage, Sirajul started torturing Julekha physically and mentally for dowry. In the meantime, Julekha became eight months pregnant.
At one point, Sirajul falsely accused Julekha of having an extramarital affair with a young man
named Mosharraf, his neighbor. Since the marriage, Sirajul has been torturing the victim physically and mentally for dowry. If she cannot pay the dowry, she was threatening of getting divorced.
As a result, family quarrels escalated when the victim’s family failed to pay adequate dowry.
At one point, the accused Sirajul started torturing more making false allegations that the victim had an extramarital affair with a young man named Mosharraf.
According to RAB officials, at one stage, Sirajul was insulted and warned in the arbitration meeting of the village.
At the incident, Sirajul became more enraged and planned to kill his wife Julekha. He went to his father-in-law’s house in North Jamsha village of Singair on 5 December 2003 with Julekha.
The next day, Julekha was taken to Manikganj town to be seen by a doctor and after deliberately wasting time on various excuses, he left Manikganj town late at night for his father-in-law’s house.
From there, Sirajul took Julekha to a secluded place on the bank of Kaliganga river near his father-in-law’s house without going to his father-in-law’s house.
There, he wrapped Zulekha ‘s neck with a towel, ensured the death, left her on the bank of the river and fled.
In the incident, besides Julekha, her eight-month-old baby was also killed.
Later, on December 6, 2003, Abdul Jalil, the father of the slain Julekha, filed a murder case with the Singair police station.
