Authorities have suspended six officials of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 after a prisoner, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, went missing from the jail on Thursday. Besides, a departmental case has also been filed against six more persons.
IG (Prisons) Brigadier General AKM Mostofa Kamal Pasha confirmed the matter.
The Kashimpur Central Jail authorities have also formed a three-member inquiry committee, comprising DIG (Prisons), a Senior Jail Super and a Jailer to probe the incident of fleeing convict Abu Bakar Siddique. Jail Super Jahanara Begum told media that that Abu Bakar Siddique remained missing from Thursday evening.
Authorities did not find him inside the jail till filing this report yesterday night. Siddique, hailing from Abad Chandipur in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira, was shifted to Kashimpur Central Jail from Rajshahi as a death-row convict in 2011.
On July 27, 2012, a court commuted the death sentence and gave him life imprisonment in a case.
Earlier on May 13, 2015, Abu Bakar remained missing from jail as he went into hiding inside the jail. Later, the jail authorities found him from inside a septic tank the following day.
