Bangladesh Chhatra League’s ex- activist Tarique-Bin-Zohor alias Tamal on Monday surrendered to the court and the court sent him to the prison. He was on run for six years with life term sentence.
Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka sent him to prison after rejecting his bail plea.
Tamal was given life-term imprisonment in his absence on December 18 of 2013. The court said that the punishment of the
fugitive would be effective from the day of his arrest or surrender to the court.
The same tribunal sentenced eight BCL activists to death and 13 others to life imprisonment for killing tailor Bishwajit Das in Old Dhaka six years ago.
Chhatra League activists of the Jagannath University unit killed Bishwajit, 24, by mistake during the opposition’s blockade about 9 am on December 9 of 2012.
Bishwajit was hacked to death in broad daylight, an incident that spread terror and shocked the country.
