The International Day of Older Persons was observed with much enthusiasm and in a befitting manner in Kishoreganj on Sunday. In this connection, a colourful rally brought out from Kishoreganj Somoboy Bhabon.
The procession paraded the main roads of Kishoreganj and ended at Kishoreganj Collectorate Office. Deputy Commissioner Md Azimuddin Biswas was a chief guest and Probin Hitoysi Sango President Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting.
It was addressed among others by Deputy Director of Social Welfare Mohammad Rabiul Islam, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Mashud, Govt. Gurudayal College Ex. Principal Rafiqul Islam Khan, Jail Super Md. Bazlur Rashid, Journalist Mustafa Kamal, Samiul Hoque Mollah, Dr. Imran Ali and Women Leader Bilkis Begum spoke on the occasion and they discussed the importance of this day.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Speakers here have urged everyone to show due respect to the older citizens for their tremendous achievements and enormous contributions in building the present developed and civilised society.
The opinion came on Sunday at a discussion organised by the district unit of ‘Bangladesh Probin Hitoishi Sangha (BPHS) at District Muktijoddha Complex auditorium here in observance of the International Day of Older Persons- 2017.
Earlier, a colourful rally, participated by freedom fighters, professionals and elderly citizens paraded the city streets.
The district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad (BMS) extended assistance to BHPS in observing the day to promote life style of the older people and share their skills with generations.
President of district unit of BPHS and President of district unit of BMS Mosaddek Hossain Bablu presided over the discussion.
General Secretary of the district unit of BPHS Matiar Rahman, its Members Monwara Begum, Mahbubar Rahman, Mamtaz Pervin, among others, addressed. Monwara Begum said the elderly people contributed maximum in earning our hard-earned independence and suggested for arranging everything for their peaceful living by relieving from helplessness.
Mosaddek Hossain Bablu termed the older people as precious assets of the nation and called for ensuring safe living, medicare and other necessary facilities for them and setting up of old homes in every upazila.
At the end, Mostafizur Rahman and Aklima Khandker were awarded with crests for their best services to their parents.
