Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized huge contraband foreign cigarettes worth over Tk 50.91 lakh from Chattogram port shed.
CIID sources said a total of 68 mini cartons of cigarettes, which were imported from Sri Lanka, was being carried by one Mizanur Rahman. On secret information, the CIID conducted the raid at the U-baggage site of No. 7 jetty of container yard at Patenga and seized the cigarettes, said Dr AKM Nuruzzaman, Commissioner of Chattogram customs House.
“The man in the letter of credit declared that he had imported some goods for his personnel use under bond facilities. Practically we have found cigarettes,” said Nuruzzaman.
