The High Court has instructed authorities to carry searching for ‘missing’ BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed.
It also ordered police to file a report every month on the progress of the search for the next six months.
The bench of Justices Quamrul Islam Siddique and Gobinda Chandra Tagore disposed a petition filed by BNP joint secretary general’s wife Hasina Ahmed on Monday.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain represented the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah argued for the state.
On March 12, the High Court had issued a rule,
which sought explanation from the government as to why the BNP leader would not traced and produced before a court.
On Monday, the court heard arguments before delivering its order.
“The court has instructed to carry on the search with due importance. The police have to file a report on the matter every month for the next six months to the home secretary,” the deputy attorney general told bdnews24.com.
The ‘missing’ BNP leader’s family alleges that he was picked up by detective police personnel from a house at Uttara on the night of March 10.
According to the wife Hasina Ahmed, the BNP leader had called her over phone just before he went missing. She further complained that the Uttara and Gulshan police stations had refused to accept their complaints.
