The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the authorities of the universities to continue their academic activities amid BNP-led 20-party alliance’s non-stop blockade and hartal.
The instructions were issued after a meeting between the UGC high-ups and the Vice-Chancellors of all the public and private universities across the country on Sunday.
Some VCs said that it would be difficult to continue classes and examinations during the blockade and hartal as the transportation system of the universities remains closed.
But, UGC Chairman AK Azad Chowdhury asked the authorities of the universities to continue classes and examinations at any cost amid the alliance’s agitation programme.
Chowdhury said the UGC is trying to ensure quality in higher education all over the country.
“Non-stop blockade and hartal disrupts the higher education. The situation cannot be continued. The High Court also asked the education ministry to take initiative to continue classes and examinations at all educational institutions. We are trying to follow the direction of the court,” the UGC Chairman said.
