Containers with banned electronic goods seized

Custom Intelligence Department seized a total of 12 containers suspecting that there might be banned goods in the Chalan on Saturday. Of the 12 containers, six containers were opened on Sunday for the physical test.
Costly TV and electronic goods were found in three containers and foreign made cigarettes in rest three containers, said sources in Chittagong Custom House. Sources said, the importer declared that there were capital machinery in the containers. But, later, after physical test, the Custom Intelligence Department confirmed that there were banned electronic goods which were imported by fake declaration.
The importer was trying to evade taxes of Tk more than one core by importing the electronic goods by fake declaration, said the sources. Sources said, Henan Agro Limited, imported the containers by declaring that there were capital machinery.
The Rabeya and Sons was deployed for clearing the goods as C & F Agent. The containers reached Chittagong port on Friday. At that time, the Custom Intelligence Department got information that there might be banned items in at least nine containers.
 Later, the Custom Intelligence Department seized the containers and the physical test. However, in the first step of the physical test, the Custom Intelligence Department opened six containers on Sunday for the physical test.
 Of the said six containers, there were costly TV and electronic goods in three containers and foreign made cigarettes in rest three containers.
The officials of the Custom Intelligence Department said that the department is calculating taxes tried to be evaded.
