The consumers of Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Gas cylinder are being deprived of govt subsidy on LP gas bottle though the government is expending large amount of subsidy to LP gas cylinder every year for the public interest .
The fixed govt price of LP gas fixed at Tk.700 whereas these LP gas cylinder is being sold at tk.1400 to Tk.1500 by the retail dealers.
Mentionable that following the high demand of LP gas and natural gas crisis in Chittagong , the dealers of LP gas has been realizing double rate than the fixed govt rates.
A reliable sources of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation said, major of LP gas products are being supplied to defence and policy authorities and these consumers are getting LP gas cylinder at Tk.700 per cylinder and a number of allegations are being received by the BPC about the sale of cylinders through commercial dealers to the private consumers .
The sources further said the dealers of LP gas also sell the gas bottles of different private LP gas producers with high price and with the advantage of selling the private LP gas products , the dealers also realizing high prices of BPC produced LP gas cylinders.
Considering the public interest, BPC reduced the LP gas bottles from Tk.1000 to Tk.300 on July 31 , 2012 aimed at to keep similarity with the price of supplied natural gas for better interest of the consumers . But the fact is reversed . The unscrupulous gas dealers are realizing double price of LP Gas despite of govt subsidy to BPC .
Mentionable that BPC owned two gas filling plant , one at Chittagong and another at Sylhet and BPC is able to supply 25 percent of the total demand across the country. The demand of LP gas in Chittagong is about 21 metric tons whereas the BPC is able to supply only 11 metric tons.
Conscious quarters observed that BPC should introduce rationing system of LP gas cylinders to avoid the profit making tendency of the unscrupulous retail dealers of LP gas.
Following the rationing system , every real LP gas consumers will procure LP gas bottle from the authorized dealers of BPC with subsidy price of Tk.700 which will facilitate the natural gas crisis in Chittagong to some extents , circles opined.
