Construction work in Saidpur is being affected due to high price of construction materials including cement, angle and .
At present, price of cement has increased Tk100 per bag, grade and non-graded rod, angle has increased by Tk 20 per kg, Due to this unusual increase in price, the contractor and the owner have to stop the construction work. Even the work of individual ownership has stopped. About 25 percent of the construction workers involved in construction work have become jobless.
It is learnt that, in the last two months, the price has increased at a high speed. At present, per ton rod is selling at 57 to 68 thousand instead of Tk. 49/50 thousand and per bag cement bag of is being sold at Tk. 500 instead of Tk 390/400 . Angle was selling at Tk 55 to 57 thousand per ton and now it is being sold at Tk 65 to 70 thousand. Suddenly, the people involved in construction work have been trapped in the price rise. Especially due to the increase in the cost of the rod-cement in the last time of the government’s work, the ongoing development works of Saidpur have been threatened . At the same time contractors are suffering from the loss . Only the owners of their own buildings are running the ongoing work. Many people stopped again after starting their work.
Jahidul Islam, former president of the Saidpur Construction Workers’ Association, said , as the price of cement, angle and rod has increased suddenly, the owners have stopped the new work. As a result, the construction works has narrowed down and workers are becoming unemployed. These numbers are increasing day by day.
