A contractor has been appointed to build a project worth around Tk 100 crore for the construction of necessary infrastructure at Ramgarh Land Port in Khagrachhari. It will take two years to complete he project. Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Md. Alamgir disclosed it. The Bangladesh and the Indian governments hope that the opening of the first land port in Chattogram will change the economic situation of the underprivileged people of Chattogram to open new avenues for trade and commerce with the northeastern states of India, including Tripura. A high-level delegation led by Bangladesh Land Ports Authority Chairman Mohammad Alamgir visited the land port site recently.
Government of Bangladesh allowed India to build a bridge over the Feni River to establish road connectivity between the two countries. The construction of the 412-meter-long and 14.8-meter-wide two-lane Exata Dodged, Cable Stayed RCC Bridge named Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge-1 on the Ramgarh-Sabroom border was completed in 2020 at a cost of about Tk 110 cr with Indian funding.
On March 9, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the bridge through a virtual ceremony.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Land Port Authority has taken a project worth Tk 100 cr for the construction of various port offices, check posts, ware houses, residential buildings, sheds and other necessary infrastructure on 10 acres of land acquired in the Mahamuni area of Ramgarh for the launch of the land port.
During the visit, Land Port Authority Chairman Mohammad Alamgir told this correspondent in an exclusive interview that contractors had been appointed for the construction of various offices and residential buildings including warehouses, sheds, ICPs, customs, police, BGB check posts. The construction work of the infrastructure will start as soon as the land development work is completed. The period of completion of this project worth Tk 100 crore is two years.
