A new yard for storing the empty containers under Chittagong Port formally inaugurated by the chairman of Chitagong Port Authority Rear Admiral M. Khaled Iqbal on Wednesday .
At the same time, CPA chairman laid foundation stone of another container yard in the name of New Mooring Overflow container Yard(NMOCY) beside the empty container yard. The empty container yard was constructed beside the Dock labour colony and formally opened from yesterday. This yard is located over 56 thousand square feet areas with capacity of 1800 empty containers and constructed at a cost of tk.8 crores, a port sources said.
Meanwhile, the NMOCY will be constructed over land of 34.50 acres with estimated expenditure of Tk.180 crores with capacity of 20 thousand cargo loaded containers. CPA chairman hoped that the construction work of the new container yard will take minimum one year.
Among others, Member(Admn & Planning) Jafar Alam, Member(Eng) Commodore Zulfikar Aziz , Member (Harbour) Commodore Shahin Rahman, Member(Finance) Md. Kamrul Amin were present on the opening and foundation laying ceremony, a port sources said.
