India and Bangladesh have approved setting up of four more border haats along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya aimed at increasing bilateral trade between the two countries and improving the living conditions of the border residents.
Two of the approved border haats would be set up at East Khasi Hills’ Bholaganj and Ryngku, one at Nolikata in South West Khasi Hills and the other at Sibari in South Garo Hills.
According to officials, India’s central government has already earmarked funds for the projects.
Meghalaya already has two border haats at Kalaichar in South West Garo Hills and Balat in East Khasi Hills.
