Construction of Bay Terminal at CITF inaugural session stressed

Shipping Minister Md. Shahjahan Khan MP in his address on the inaugural session of the Chittagong International Trade Fair-2018 at World Trade centre in the city on Saturday did not discuss the present berthing problems of the Chittagong Port including constructions of Bay terminal at Patenga.
 The Minister in his 15 minutes long deliverations as Chief Guest reiterated the old problems of the port and the upgrading the Llyods List in favour of Chittagong Port.
He said in Lloyds list, CP’s position up by 27 steps than before. Meanwhile State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman chowdhury Javed and the city mayor AJM Nasiruddin repeatedly requested the Shipping Minister to discuss the matter of Bay terminal construction and procurement of new handling equipments so as to get relief from paying demurrage charges to the foreign vessels.
Land state minister in his deliverations as special guest disclosed that at outer berth of the port, a number of foreign vessels are seen wait ing for want of berths at inner berth for which CPA in the grip of demurrage debacle. He said the present demurrage now stands at 15000 US dollar per day and the businessmen are bearing this huge amount of demurrage for delaying unloading of cargos in due time. City Mayor also stressed the need for construction of Bay Terminal within short possible time andalso suggest for construction of berths at Dolphin jetty with private sector.
City Mayor said import export volume increased through chittagong port but capacity yet to be increased. The chamber leaders urge the shipping Minister to resolve the port problems and ship congestions immediately.
In brief deliverations of the shipping minister avoids the discussions over prevailing problems of the port including construction of Bay Terminal , a port user sources said.
