BNP standing committee member Lt General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman said that the government was not evaluating properly the contribution of the country’s legendary leader Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani.
Addressing a discussion on Saturday, he alleged that the present government was hatching conspiracy to delete the name of the great leader from history. The nation won’t accept it, he said.
He also said that the country was now passing through a crisis moment due to corrupt politics, misrule and misdeeds of the present government. The rights of the people are snatched through the January-5 ‘one-sided’ election. The government will have to pay for this, he added.
Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) arranged the discussion on “Kagmari Conference: Moulana Bhasani and Liberation of Bangladesh” at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in memory of the historic ‘Kagmari Conference’ held first in 1957 in Tangail. NAP Chairman Jebel Rahman Ghaani chaired the function while chairman of Kalyan Party Major General (retd) Syed Ibrahim Birpratik, NAP Secretary General Gulam Mostafa Bhuiyan, Secretary General of Democratic League Saifuddin Moni, NAP leaders Kazi Faruque Hossain, Swapan Kumar Saha, Morol Amzad Hossain and Md Kamal Bhuiyan spoke, among others.
The cover of a book ‘Moulana Bhasani is Dreamer of Independence’ written by Md Yunus Ali Bhuiyan was unveiled by Mahbubur Rahman and other participants of the function.
Speakers of the discussion termed the historic ‘Kagmari Conference’ as the ‘turning point’ in the country’s history. In that conference, Moualana Bhasani bade farewell to West Pakistan.
They said that Moulana Bhasani was the political conscience of the country.
But opportunists used him to serve their interests. He was a farsighted leader intensified the liberation movement in 1970, they added.
