UNB, Dhaka :Though Bangladesh was liberated in 1971, hegemonic forces are still conspiring to snatch the country’s independence and sovereignty, said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday.”Though our beloved motherland was freed from the grasp of enemies in 1971, the plots by conspirators are still on against it. The hegemonic forces are making evil efforts to snatch our independence and sovereignty to make us a subservient nation,” she said in a message. The BNP chief issued the message congratulating the nation on the occasion of the Victory Day to be observed on Tuesday. She said the local cohorts of the evil forces have put the nation’s hard-earned independence at stake with their various plots.Khaleda said, people’s liberty has been stanched by holding a ‘unilateral and farcical election’ on January 5. “The usurper regime is killing people by carrying out brutal attacks on them. The present situation looks dangerous and anarchic.”She called for forging a national unity imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War to save the country from the grasp of the evil forces. On the occasion of the Victory Day, Khaleda remembered with deep respect those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyred and showed her deep respect to those mothers and sisters who also made their invaluable sacrifices for the country’s liberation.
