The government is taking steps to improve connectivity of Chittagong with Cox’s Bazar and the three hill districts to boost tourism.
Eighteen per cent work on Cox’s Bazar International Airport has already been done while the runway at Shah Amanat International Airport is going to be extended. The work on Chittagong-Gundum Railway track will be taken up next year.
Rashed Khan Menon, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Chittagong Intl tourism fair- Chittagong Travel Mart 2015 at The Peninsula Chittagong hotel in the port city today, December 17, 2015.
He said Chittagong and its neighboring districts could be promoted if the products, specially the religious, eco-tourism and community based tourism products are packaged rightly .For this the private sector will have to come forward, the minister said.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Mahbubul Alam, President, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed the need of the presence of some decision making organizations in Chitttagong, if the city is to be the commercial capital of the country in the real sense of the term.
Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor, The Bangladesh Monitor and Mustafa Tahseen Arshad, Managing Director, The Peninsula Chittagong also spoke at the inaugural ceremony.
The three-day intl tourism fair is being organized by the premier travel publication – The Bangladesh for the seventh time. Tourism Malaysia and US bangle Airlines are supporting the present edition of the fair as the Partners.
19 organisations from home and abroad, including airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, amusement parks and organisations providing tourism related services, showcasing their products and services in 25 stalls. Special discounts on air tickets, hotel rooms, tour packages and other products and services will be offered by participating organisations during the fair.
The fair will be open everyday up to 19 December from 10.30 am to 8 pm everyday and there will be no entry fee.
