In whatever language President Joe Biden justifies the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, he cannot camouflage the humiliating defeat US has suffered at the hands of the Taliban. When the insurgents reached the gates of Kabul on Sunday his country had to concentrate on sending additional 3000 troops there to secure Kabul Airport and ensure safe evacuation of Americans and thousands of Afghans who worked with US forces for long 20 years. Those in charge of the airport have told the media the Taliban assured them of safe passage to those who wanted to leave the country.
They go to a country to save the people from darkness and let them down and are now fleeing the country for their own safety. This happened in Vietnam. In Afghanistan the same thing has repeated after continuing the war against extremist Taliban group along with NATO countries. America must be held responsible for leaving Afghans in the hands of Taliban to be butchered. The question cannot be avoided if the vast number of soldiers were really fighting Taliban or wasting two trillion dollars of the US public money.
The question may be asked why they risked the Western Powers. NATO with US money and soldiers is continuing in Europe to protect it and allow democracy to grow in strength. America is leaving Afghan people when a negotiated settlement was ever so possible.
With America’s military might Taliban could not survive, not to speak of defeating the US.
