We know that the visit of England team to Bangladesh was a highly courageous decision this time after militants’ attack at Gulshan Holey Artisan Restaurant sparking fear all over. When several teams were unwilling to visit Bangladesh, Australia rescind its decision, England team came up to show solidarity with Bangladesh and prove its claim that the country is safe for visiting team to play. We are pleased by the England team’s gesture and hope that cricket will always keep both the countries closer through sorrow and pain. We hope other teams may also review their decision now.
We applaud our boys who dominated the game from the beginning yesterday pushing England out for 164 in their second innings while chasing 273 for victory on the third day of the second and final Test in Mirpur. Mehedi Hasan, who played his second Test match as a new recruit alone took six wickets Sunday after begging similar glaring wickets on Saturday. Sakib also took four wickets on Sunday making the viewers jubilant throughout the game. The team showed outstanding skill and coordination to show that Tigers are capable to face challenge from any team in both one-day and Test matches.
Bangladesh was closer to break England’s winning record in the First Test at Chittagong but suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 22 runs. In Dhaka Test match in the second innings England captain Alastair Cook and Ben Duckett took the team to 100 without loss at tea, but Bangladesh made a remarkable turnaround by taking all 10 wickets of England team in short sequence in final. Bangladesh won the much needed victory that gave the nation a big smile.
Bangladesh Cricket team is globally emerging in the best players status in the recent past. They have also beat Zimbabwe and West Indies earlier in Test matches but had never had a glittering victory like this on Sunday. We know cricket is a match of glorious uncertainty, Sunday was for Bangladesh but England won all other matches and has the capacity to beat any team. Tigers learned a lot from England players and we hope they will come on more such visits to Bangladesh to give us eye-catching games in the pitch.
