Joynal Abedin Khan :The countrymen have become shocked to know that the DNA test report found the evidence of gang rape of college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu but the two-time postmortem reports could not find any such evidence. They expressed dissatisfaction as the law enforcers could not arrest any of the killers as yet, though 60 days have already elapsed since the brutal killing in the Comilla Cantonment Board area.As the responsibility of investigation of the case has recently been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Police and DB, it carried out the DNA test after getting permission from the court following mass protest against the postmortem reports of Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH). However, doctors of the CMCH have rejected to publish the second time postmortem report due to contradictory result with the DNA report which made the people surprised.  Meanwhile, the law enforcers have interrogated 58 people, including Tonu’s parents and doctors, in connection with the murder. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) also conducted a shadow investigation in this regard. The parents of the unfortunate girl and the people have shown satisfaction, saying the positive results of the DNA test, raised hope for justice.”We’re happy with the report. Now it seems that we’re going to get justice,” said Tonu’s parents Yaar Hossain and Anwara Begum while talking to reporters on Thursday. They demanded arrest of Sergeant Zahid and Sepoy Zahid, and Dr Kamoda Prosad Saha, who conducted the second autopsy along with Dr Omar Faruk and Sharmin Sultana Shammi. The parents also claimed that Tonu had no enmity with any one. “They are now waiting to see the real killers into the net.” According to media reports, Anwara Begum, speaking to journalists on May 10, pointed the finger at two soldiers in the Cantonment, Sergeant Zahid and Sepoy Zahid, who, she said, knew what happened to Tonu. “We’ve found samples of spermatozoa of three men on the dress and underwear of Tonu in the DNA test conducted at the CID’s Dhaka laboratory,” said Special Police Super of Comilla CID Dr Nazmul Karim Khan.”The DNA profiling confirmed that she was raped before she was killed,” he said.He said, they are trying their best to identify the killers of Tonu. ‘We are under tremendous pressure to identify the criminals,’ Khan said. The CID investigators said that they had asked for the names of the officials and other rankers transferred from Comilla Cantonment immediately after the incident, but the names were not provided as yet.The CID team had interrogated the first investigation officer, sub-inspector Saiful Islam, over the first inquest report. ‘He (Saiful) told us that he could not prepare the inquest properly,’ the investigator said. When asked, Saiful also avoided commenting on how the inquest report was prepared and also could not say whether the crime scene was properly protected by the law enforcers.Dr Kamal Prasad Saha, Head of Forensic Department of CMCH said, the team met on Saturday to finalise their report. We will not submit the report to the CID as their report is totally different with the DNA test report.”We don’t have the report from the DNA tests yet. But we can still manage to submit the report soon,” he claimed.Dr Kamal Prasad Saha was accompanied by Rani Karmaker, Head of Gynaecology and Md Omar Faruk, a Lecturer of Forensic Medicine at CMCH. Addressing a press conference at his Badurtola area office in the district, Dr Kamoda said that he had received Dr Sharmin’s autopsy report, while the victim’s viscera report had also arrived from the capital.Meanwhile, doctors of the Forensic Department of CMCH had claimed that they did not find evidence of rape in the autopsy they conducted or any sign of rape before the death of the girl. Later, a fresh postmortem was conducted on the body at the CMCH on March 30 after it was exhumed, following a court order on March 28.Members of Crime Scene Unit of CID brought the DNA and other samples of teeth, nails and body to Dhaka for examination. On April 4, the Forensic Medicine Department of CMCH released the first postmortem report which mentioned that no evidence of murder and rape of Tonu was found in the postmortem. On the other hand, the three-member medical board of the Forensic Department of the hospital sent a letter to the Comilla CID seeking reports of the DNA test of Tonu’s clothes, tooth and nails as well as her fingerprint. The first postmortem of Tonu, a second-year history student of Comilla Victoria Government College, was performed soon after her body was found near her residence inside the Mainamati Cantonment in Comilla on March 20.She was found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside the Comilla Cantonment area on March 20.
