Confce on ‘War & English studies’ begins at DU

A two-day international conference on “The Great War and English Studies” at the Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Dhaka University began on Thursday.
The Department of English of Dhaka University is organizing the conference.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as chief guest while British High Commissioner to Dhaka Robert W Gibson CMG attended the function as special guest.
Chairperson of the Department of English Prof. Tahmina Ahmed and convener of the conference Prof. Fakrul Alam, among others, addressed the conference.
Prof. Arefin stressed the need for raising voice against any sort of wars to build a better and peaceful world for the future generation.
“Dhaka University is a forerunner in creating the Centre for Genocide Studies. It is one of the unique academic platforms to discuss issues related to violence such as genocide, rape, war crime and war trials,” he added.
