The Power Ministry is going to lift the condition of setting up of solar home system on the rooftop of the building for getting fresh electricity connection, ministry sources said.
Different trade bodies and Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB)
have repeatedly demanded withdrawal of condition in view of spreading up of corruption to get new connection.
The Power Division has taken the decision to lift condition as per recommendation of Power Cell.
The government on November 11, 2010, made it mandatory to install solar home system with capacity up to two kilowatts and above on the rooftop for getting new electricity connections for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.
As per the decision of the ministry, the Power Division would also send a proposal to Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to raise fund for Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) from electricity users, officials concerned said. They added that the Power Division was yet to fix the amount to be charged from new consumers for electricity connection.
“The present system of getting new electricity from renewable sources has invited corruption in the sector,” Power Cell Director General Mohammed Hossain said.
“So, we have recommended for relaxing solar policy and also suggested to introduce the Grid Tide Solar System (GTSS) to install solar panels,” he said
