Former officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station Rafiqul Islam, who was rewarded death penalty in a case for killing a college student in 2005, died at
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday night.
He had been detained in Dhaka Central Jail.
As he felt sick on Tuesday night, the jail authorities sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11:00pm when doctors declared him dead. Majammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police camp, confirmed this to UNB.
On September 13, 2005, Kamrul Islam Momin, a student of Mirpur Commerce College, was killed in front of his house at North Ibrahimpur in the city following a feud over land demarcation in which involvement of the then officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station Rafiqul Islam was found.
