Speakers at a discussion unequivocally called for concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned to empower the women with disabilities. Like normal people, physically challenged women should get necessary services including reproductive health and education, they told at a training course styled “Women with Disabilities: Empowerment, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Self-reliance” at BGB Party Point in Rajshahi on Wednesday . Women with Disabilities Development Foundation (WDDF) organized the training programme.
Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman, Head of Department of English of the college Professor Pijush Kanti Fouzder, Associate Professors Gulshan Ara and Samysathi Bhowmik and Executive Director of WDDF Ashrafun Nahar Misty conducted the four-hour training sessions as resource persons. Prof Rahman laid emphasis on collective efforts of both the public and private organisations for ensuring fundamental rights of women with disabilities.
Terming the challenged people as an integral part of the society, he put emphasis on mainstreaming them through creating a friendly atmosphere for people with disabilities.
The physically challenged people should never be adjudged as burden of the society.
He urged wealthy people and other philanthropists to stand beside the people with special abilities for ensuring their dignified life in the society.
