Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon Tuesday said coordinated initiatives are necessary to make the country’s tourist spots attractive for the development of potential tourism industry.
“The relevant ministries, departments and offices and non-government organizations would have to take concerted moves to make the tourist destinations attractive. The government has taken different initiatives to this end,” he said speaking at a workshop at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
The workshop was held in preparation for a global conference titled ‘Buddhist Heritage Circuit Tourism’ to be held in Dhaka on October 27-28.
Bangladesh Tourism Board will organize the conference with the assistance of World Tourism Organization (UN WTO).
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Dr. Arup Chowdhury and Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Akhtaruzzaman Khan also spoke at the workshop titled ‘Developing Sustainable Tourism Based on Buddhist Heritage, Culture and Pilgrims’ Circuit’.
Recommendations of the workshop would be presented in the international conference to be held on October 27-28.
Rashed Khan Menon said there are many sites of relics in the country which could easily be made attractive to the tourists.
He urged the private tour operators and media to work in coordination along with the government to create awareness among the people about tourism.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor suggested for a taskforce with all stakeholders, including mass media to the challenges of tourism industry.
