The famous ‘Concert for Bangladesh’ is to be organised later this year to celebrate the 50 years of independence of Bangladesh.
The details of the concert organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and led by Dhani Harrison and Anoushka Shankar will be announced soon. There can be an official announcement on the concert during Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka from March 26 to 27.
The original 1971 concert led by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar also included a performance by legendary artists Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
This concert helped to raise international awareness regarding Liberation War of Bangladesh and also raised funds for the refugee crisis in the then East Pakistan. It is estimated that the 1971 concert raised $12 million for Bangladesh. As many as 40,000 people came for the event.
