BNP wants all-party talks: Concern over killing incidents

The BNP has expressed concern over the non-stop incidents of killing and secret attack, and said that the incidents have been happening as law and order situation was gradually deteriorating for lack of accountability and an elected government.
The recent killing incidents, particularity the killing of law enforcers, have pushed the country into a deep crisis. The party on Wednesday urged the government to sit in talks with all political parties, civil society members and representatives of all professions to overcome the situation.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city, BNP’s current spokesman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon said, “The present situation can’t be considered normal when policemen are killed or come under attacks of miscreants. The common people are now in panic following the killing of a police in Savar after the murders of two foreigners, a publisher and secret attacks on political leaders activists.”
He urged the government to hold all-party talks to find out a way to relieve the nation from the anxiety. He also urged the government to stop blame game and to initiate a proper investigation to find out culprits.
The BNP leader said that they would help the government in this regard. The public life and properties are not safe now. Along with administrative measures, there is no alternative to greater national unity between the political parties, civil societies and others, he added.
Demanding arrest and trial of the criminals, Dr Ripon said that the countrymen would get further frustrated for the culture of impunity if the perpetrators of the incidents. He came down heavily on Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu for what he said making low-taste remarks about their party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Inu is trying to create obstacles to formation a national unity to overcome the crisis, as he knows it very well that he will lose his security money if a free and fair election is held.
He protested and condemned sending of BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy to jail after their surrender before lower courts.
He demanded immediate release of the leaders and withdrawal of the ‘false cases’ filed against them.
