Comprehensive efforts for eliminating child labour stressed

Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has laid emphasis on comprehensive efforts of all stakeholders in eliminating child labour to turn every child into an educated and worthy citizen.
Jhantu said this while presiding over tri-monthly Advisory Committee meeting of the ‘Child Labour Elimination Action for Real Change in Urban Slum Areas of Rangpur City Corporation and Thakurgaon Municipality of Northwestern Bangladesh (CLEAR)’ project at RCC auditorium on Monday afternoon.
The Eco- Social Development Organisation (ESDO) in association with RCC and Thakurgaon Municipality has been implementing the project in Rangpur city and Thakurgaon pourasabha with financial assistance of Manusher Janno Foundation.
Secretary of RCC Fazlul Kabir delivered welcome speech narrating the ongoing project activities and successes achieved so far in bringing back of the working and vulnerable children under mainstream education programme in the city.
The Advisory Committee members, Monitoring and Advocacy Officer of CLEAR project for RCC Mostafa Kamal, Coordinator for the project of ESDO Mahbubul Haque, City Councilors and project beneficiary children attended the meeting.
Representatives of all eight committees working at eight multidimensional centres in the city for proper implementation of the project narrated their success achieved in ensuring safety and security of the working children by eliminating hazardous child labour.
The City Mayor highly appreciated the set goals of the CLEAR project and successes achieved so far and thanked ESDO authority for including RCC in the project for turning Rangpur into a city free from hazardous child labour.
Later, he formally published the ‘Poster Cum Calendar’, prepared under the CLEAR project, by unveiling cover and distributed the same among all participants in the meeting.
The City Mayor also distributed school dresses, bags and education materials among the admitted children in the mainstream educational institutions after bringing them back from hazardous child labour.
Modern road communication networks begins
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has said steps have been taken for developing modern road communication networks to turn Rangpur into a traffic-jam free city.
Jhantu, also a valiant freedom fighter, said this while launching carpeting works of two roads by unveiling plaque at separate ceremonies in Khotkhotia and Sarderpara areas under Ward No-3 and Ward No-4 respectively on Sunday afternoon as the chief guest.
The city corporation has been implementing the road carpeting works under phase-wise construction packages of 142 roads, drains, culverts, drainage systems and many other infrastructures in the city at Taka 33 crore from its own resources.
City Councilors Anwarul Islam, Ashek Ali, Haradhan Chandra Roy and Golam Sarwar Mirja Abdur Razzaque, Haradhan Chandra Roy, Executive Engineer of RCC Azam Ali attended the ceremonies, among others.
While addressing the occasions, the City Mayor said the infrastructural development works are being implemented for building an eco-friendly, well-planned, modern, traffic-jam free and beautiful Rangpur city.
He said the common people would be benefited and traffic-jam situation improved significantly after completion of the massive infrastructural development works in al wards of the city.
He directed the concerned engineers, officials and contractors and sought cooperation of the citizens for timely completing the construction works of all infrastructures ensuring the best quality, transparency and accountability.
