Complaint to Proctor JU BCL activists sexually harass female student

Some leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit sexually harassed a female student on the Pahela Baishakh night [Tuesday].
The victim complained this on Thursday noon to the Proctor Office through a written petition. She, however, did not want to disclose her identity in the public.
The accused BCL men are Nishat Imtiaz Bijoy, Executive Member of the JU BCL unit, Nafiz Imtiaz, the Publication Secretary of Shaheed Salam Barkat (SSB) Hall unit and BCL activists Abdur Rahman Ifti, Nurul Kabir and Rakib Hasan. All of them are the students of SSB Hall of JU. According to the written allegation filed by the victim, “The female student was returning to her dormitories from the Pahela Baishakh function. The BCL men intercepted her at Chourungy and snatched her bag and mobile phone set, and sexually harassed her. They also beat up her friend Nahid when he came to save her.”
“I want justice and an exemplary punishment for this,” the victim said to this correspondent.
JU Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Saha said, “We have got a complaint, and after investigation we will take the final decision.”
Head of the ‘Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell of JU’ Rasheda Akter said, “Proper punishment would be given to the culprit after investigation.” Meanwhile, the BCL of JU unit suspended the accused students temporarilly. It also demanded punishment to the accused persons within 24 hours. Bangladesh Chhatra Union of JU unit demanded exemplary punishment to the rowdy youths and threatened to launch a fresh movement against the present administration if proper justice is not be ensured”, a press release said.
