Wealth case: Complaint against JP leader Ruhul Amin scrutinising

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is scrutinizing a complaint that Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader amassed huge wealth beyond his known sources of income.
ACC Public Relation Officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed it to The New Nation and said that the Commission had already started looking into the allegation from Tuesday.
If it appears that an inquiry should be held, the Commission will form a team, he said.
Several national dailies carried out reports in the
last few days on Ruhul Amin’s huge wealth and property.
According to the reports, Ruhul Amin Howlader quoted Tk 17.68 lakh in his wealth statements submitted to the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the 9th National Polls held in 2008 and Tk 6.66 crore before the 10th parliamentary polls in 2004.
The JP Secretary General holds shares worth Tk 8.50 crore and has two luxurious cars and several plots.
According to the affidavit submitted to the EC in 2013, he cited Tk 1.62 crore as his income from houses and shops’ rent, which was Tk 13.8 lakh in 2008.
His wife has gold ornaments weighting 100 bhories. During the last five years, he paid Tk 10.55 crore as loan repayment.
Ruhul Amin Howalder has 12.7 kathas of land at Gulshan and seven kathas in his wife’s name at Purbachal in the city. He has residential and commercial complexes worth Tk 2.33 crore.
