Speakers at a BBC-Bangladesh dialogue have called for immediate compensation to all victims’ family members and the workers injured following the collapse of Rana Plaza at Savar.
The dialogue was held at BIAM Auditorium in the city on Saturday night marking the first anniversary of the building collapse on April 24, 2013.
Participating in the discussion, Prime Minister’s
The remaining family members and wounded workers will be compensated as soon as possible, he said.
BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, BGMEA’s President Atikul Islam and Sammilito Garments Sramik Federation President Nazma Akhter were also discussants at the dialogue.
In response to another question, he said the government has taken all possible measures so that the incidents like Rana Plaza and Tazreen Fashions could not take place further.
Criticising foreign buyers, HT Imam said that they should enhance the buying rate of our apparels which will ultimately benefit the workers and the sector as well. He said they used to buy garments from our country at a low price compared to those of their sale rate.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury alleged that the government had a lack of sincerity to compensate the victims’ family members. If it had the ‘cordiality’, it would not take such a long time.
Nazma Akhter said the government has failed to confirm cent percent compensation.
Atikul Islam said the government must pay compensation to all the victims’ family members and the injured workers before April 24.
