Nurnabi Chowdhury, the General Secretary of Awami League Companiganj upazila unit in Noakhali, has been attacked and shot in both legs by miscreants.
The incident happened in the Masterpara area under ward 3 of Basurhat municipality around 10:30am on Monday.
Quoting Nurnabi, Fakhrul Islam Rahat, nephew of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and also an Awami League leader, claimed: “On the orders of Quader Mirza (mayor of Basurhat municipality and younger brother of Obaidul Quader), his follower miscreant Kechcha Russell from ward 3 of Basurhat municipality attacked Nurnabi Chowdhury with weapons in the morning.
“They not only shot his legs but also broke them. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Companiganj Upazila Health Complex,” Fakhrul added.
Nurnabi, 66, also the chairman of Sirajpur Union Parishad, was shot under his right and left knees. After primary treatment, he was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, said Companiganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Selim. Officer-in-Charge of Companiganj police station Mir Zahidul Haque Rony said: “Legal action will soon be taken over this incident.”
