Staff Reporter : Commuters across the capital are suffering from acute shortages of public transport today (Tuesday) as the transports workers lacks of fitness documents refrained to bring vehicles out to streets for the fear of fines.
As the BRTA mobile courts started implementation of Road safety Act in the city, the transport owners and workers are panicked for being fined a high amount of money, one of the bus drivers said.
Leaders of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association also admitted the matter.
“Rumour spread among the transport workers that BRTA mobile courts across the city were fining Tk 25,000 for running vehicles without fitness certificate and valid license,” said Mahbubur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association.
As a result numbers of vehicles having no fitness certificates and drivers without licences did not run their vehicles to avoid fining.
But situation is being normal gradually as the workers came to know that Tk 25,000 fine was not correct.
But the office going people were facing huge sufferings in lack of vehicles in the morning.
Arzu Ahmed, a private bank service holder in Farmegate area resided in Jurain in the city one of the sufferer.
He said, the office time exceeded but I have failed to get a bus this morning. It was unusual for a office day, he said.
People in every bus stop in the city are found in such situation since morning to noon.
