The World AIDS Day was observed with a befitting manner in Gopalganj yesterday. The theme of the day was ” Communities make the difference”.
Civil surgeon office Gopalganj, CCDB, Bangladesh Youth First Concerns jointly organised the programme. On the Occasion day, they brought out a colourful rally and chanting slogan.
 The rally paraded main roads in the city. The high officials of district administration and all staffs of different NGO’S, Upazila Health & Family Planning office & Civil surgeon office were attended the rally.
After rally, a discussion meeting was held at Upazila Health & Family Planning office conference room premises in Gopalganj. Dr. Mohammad Ehsanul Kabir, Upazila Health & Family Planning officer (In charge), Gopalganj presided over the discussion meeting where Dr. Tarun Mandol, Civil surgeon, Gopalganj was presented as the Chief guest.
Among others, Dr. Moni Sanker Bala, SO, Diseases control, Upazila Health & Family Planning office, S, M Arman, Upazila Family Planning officer, Mintu Halder, programme manager, BYFC, Gopalganj Soilen Folia, Senior programme officer, CCDB, Gopalganj And Moly Bala, General Secretary, YWCA, Gopalganj were spoken on the occasion
BSS from Rajshahi reports: Health experts here yesterday called for mass awareness, especially among the youths to prevent spread of HIV/AIDS in the region.
They underscored for creating mass awareness about diseases like AIDS, health rules during sexual contacts, developing religious ethics and moral values, and involving the socio-religious and political leaders for prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Civil Surgeon Office organised the discussion in association with nine NGOs and voluntary organizations to mark the World AIDS Day-2019 in the city. ‘Communities make the difference’ was the main theme of the day.
Chaired by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Superintendent of Divisional Police Hospital Dr Nazrul Islam, Junior Consultant of Tuberculosis Clinic Dr Chandan Kumar Pramanik, Executive Director of Asakta Punarbasan Kendro Abul Bashar and District Brac Representative Jahedul Islam.
Dr Chandan Kumar Pramanik underscored the need for substantial and sustainable reduction of the existing HIV/AIDS risks. He stressed on concerted efforts of all quarters especially the community people.
He said HIV/AIDS is not only a health issue but also social concern and called for more coordination among different organizations and stakeholders to attain cherished results.
Dr Sobhan added that stigma and negative attitude towards the vulnerable population are the main challenge to prevent the HIV/AIDS.
Jahedul Islam emphasized the need for protecting the infected persons from their human rights violations as they are also the integral part of the society.
He stated that the universal access is a commitment to scale up access to HIV treatment, prevention, care and support with the cooperation from government development partners and civil society.
BSS from Khulna adds: At least 51 AIDS patients have been detected in Khulna division after examining 648 HIV positive patients in last one year since November 2018 experiencing the slight fall in the number of HIV patients .
A total of 39 AIDS patients were detected in 2017 and 67 AIDS patients were detected till October, 2018 while the number of the patients has declined to 51 till October, 2019.
Acting Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Atiar Rahman Sheikh disclosed this at a discussion meeting held in observance of the World Aids Day yesterday.
Khulna Civil Surgeon Office organised the meeting at the conference room of School Health Clinic with acting CS Dr Atiar Rahman in the chair. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ziaur Rahman addressed it as chief
guest while Program Officer of HIV/AIDS Abdul Baten delivered a power point presentation .
The chief guest underscored the need for creating massive awareness among the community leaders about the curse of the disease and contribute their mites toward preventing HIV AIDS.
Participating in the discussion other stakeholders including doctors and NGO officials stressed the need for following religious and moral values strictly for preventive measure to roll back the deadly disease.
