Community role to fight sexual harassment to girls emphasized

Speakers at a view sharing meeting said Community people including parents and teachers should work together to protect the girls students from sexual harassment.
They said the collective effort is very important to supplement the list of educated as well as empowered women.
Besides, there is no alternative to combat sexual harassment against girl students to establish a gender balanced society. Ensuring safe citizenship for girls through combating all sorts of violence especially sexual harassment against them has become an urgent need for boosting women empowerment, the speakers said.
The observations came at a view-sharing meeting styled “Necessity of formulating a full-fledged law to prevent sexual harassment in the society” held in Rajshahi on Thursday.
Association for Community Development (ACD) organized the meeting at its office conference hall in association with Plan International and Girls Advocacy Alliance.
Ward Councilor of Rajshahi City Corporation Nuruzzaman Tito, District Women Affairs Officer Shahnaj Begum, Children Affairs Officer Monjur Kader, Assistant Director of Department of Social Services Abdullah Al Firoj and Project Coordinators of ACD Ehsanul Amin and Mustafizur Rahman addressed the meeting. The discussants emphasised the need for freeing the society from gender discriminations in the greater interest of establishing a non-discriminatory and equitable society for taking the nation forward successfully.
To this end, they said importance should be given on women empowerment and prevention of early marriage, sexual harassment and other violence against women.
