Sylhet Bureau :
Construction of a community clinic has been stopped for two years in South Sunamganj. Contractors are also disappeared.
Despite the maximum effort, the representatives of the upazila are not getting any sign of the contractor. Although the matter was notified to the administration, no progress was made. So, people in the area are worried about the future of the clinic in a semi-constructed area for a long time.
The construction of the Birgaon Khalpar Community Clinic started at the beginning of last year at Pakhimara Haor Coast on the roadside of Pagla Birgaon Road of East Birgaon UP. Then suddenly the contractor of the community clinic disappeared and the construction of the clinic was stopped. Contractor’s workers ran away after constructing an only one-storey building of the clinic. Regarding repeated contact with the Health Engineering Department, the contracting firm is showing excuses.
Sylhet Health Engineering Department Assistant Engineer Moniruzzaman said, ‘The contractor company has been asked to complete the work at the beginning of next fiscal year. There was negligence in their work. They did not get the job done while working through others. Immediate action will be taken to complete the work.’ UP member Mizanur Rahman said, ‘After the work last year, the contractor disappeared for mysterious reasons. The contractor company did not show their face in two years. Even there is no work done with the concerned office.’
Civil Surgeon Dr Ashutosh Das said, ‘I know about a community clinic in South Sunamganj. Contracting companies have stopped working. To complete the work, I have contacted the Department of Health Engineering many times. I urged to complete the work within a short time.’
