Community-based social movement against drug abuse and addiction with spontaneous participation of common people along with members of the Community Policing could save the youths from wrath of drugs.
The opinion came at an anti-drug views-sharing meeting organised by Ward No-1 unit of Community Policing of Saddyapuskurini union at the union parishad premises under Sadar upazila in the district on Wednesday night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana ABM Zahidul Islam attended the occasion as the chief guest with President Fazlul Haque of Ward No-1 unit of Community Policing of Saddyapuskurini union in the chair.
Member Secretary of the divisional and Rangpur district units of Community Policing Shushanto Bhowmick addressed the meeting as the special guest.
Chairman of Saddyapuskurini union Sohel Rana, Community Policing officer of Kotwali Thana Sub-inspector Muhibbul Islam, General Secretary of Sadar upazila Community Policing unit Badsha Alamgir, its Member Dr Moyzul Islam, also spoke.
The meeting was arranged for creating mass awareness among common people at local community levels about the severe consequences, effects and impacts of drug abuse and drug addiction to save the youths from ruining their future.
In his speech, Shushanto Bhowmick narrated about the grievous impacts of drug abuse and addiction and put importance on creating awareness among the common people against drug abuse and addiction for building a drug-free society.
“The young generations must be saved from drug abuse and addiction for improving the worsening situation and removing barriers for their normal growth and flourishing talents in becoming worthy citizens for developing the nation,” he said.
The chief guest said members of the Community Policing should work with the common people in sensitising the local community people, youths and young generations as well as their parents about catastrophic consequences of drug aggression.
He called upon all concerned for strengthening activities of the community policing involving the local community people to launch social movement against drug for freeing the area from drug abuse and ensuring peace in the society.
