Lawyers allege: Communication with CJ cut off by Govt

Lawyers of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Wednesday alleged that the government had cut off all types of communications with Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha.
The Chief Justice is totally detached now, they said.
The SCBA members said this in a demonstration program held at the Bar premises. The Supreme Court
Bar arranged the program demanding protection of the image of the judiciary.
Earlier on Saturday the Bar leaders in a press briefing also called upon the lawyers across the country to follow the programs.
Bar President Advocate Zainul Abedin presided over the program. Bar Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Advocate Nitay Roy Chowdhury, Vice-President of the Bar Advocate Umme Kulsum Rekha, Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker, Advocate Mirza Al Mahmud and Barrister Ahsanur Rahman, among others, spoke at the briefing.
Advocate Zainul Abedin said, “Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha is confined. He was forced to go on leave and now the government is trying to send him abroad in the same way.”
He alleged that the government had cut off all types of communicating system from the CJ. The lawyers of the country want to know who had confined the Chief Justice.
He also said that their movement will continue till the CJ is brought to the public. Today the SCBA leaders will announce their new program in this regard, he said.
Advocate Umme Kulsum Rekha said that the government is trying to take control over the Judiciary. But this is harmful for the rule of law.
Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan said, “The Chief Justice does not speak out of fear. He was forced to go on leave for the 16th amendment case verdict. The government did not accept the verdict. The government and the ruling party men demanded his resignation.”
Meanwhile, the pro-government lawyers of the Supreme Court Bar observed counter programme in another part of the Bar premises. They alleged that the Bar leaders were trying to use the Bar for political purpose.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Additional Attorney General Murad Reza, former President of the SC Bar Advocate Yousuf Hossain Humayun, former Law Minister Advocate Abdul Motin Khasru, former Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun, Vice-Chairman of the Bar Council Advocate Abdul Baset Mazumder, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh were present at the program, among others.
