Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team crushed Malaysia Women’s Cricket team by eight wickets in their first match of the ICC Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition Qualifiers at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday.
Chasing Malaysia’s paltry total of 49 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, Bangladesh romped home making 53 for the loss of two wickets when they had 12 overs to spare.
Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun, the two openers made a superb start as they put on together 38 runs before Shamima Sultana was caught by Nur Dania Syuhada off Nur Arianna Natsya.
Shamima Sultana top-scored with 28 runs. She hit four fours and a sixer in his 19-ball innings.
After Shamima’s dismissal, Murshida Khatun could stay at the crease for a short period as she was caught behind by wicketkeeper Wan Julia off Nur Arianna Natsyu when Bangladesh’s total was 44 for the loss of two wickets.
Murshida Khatun made 14 from 16 balls featuring one four.
After Murshida’s departure, Fargana Hoque and Nigar Sultana guided their team to reach the winning spot.
Fargana Hoque remained unbeaten with seven runs, while Nigar Sultana remained unbeaten with three runs.
Nur Arianna Natsyu bagged two wickets at the cost of 14 runs.
Earlier, Malaysian Women failed to resist the superb bowling attack of Bangladesh Women. Rumana Ahmed and Suraiya Azmin captured two wickets each for four and seven runs respectively. Rumana Ahmed was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Ritu Moni, Salma Khatun and Nahida Akter took one wicket each instead of five, seven and 15 runs respectively.
Opener Winifred Duraisingam and second-down Mas Elysa were the two batters of Malaysia who could reach double digit figures making 12 and 11 runs respectively.
