THE Rapid Action Battalion on Wednesday arrested four fake officials of Interpol (international police organisation) and recovered two walkie-talkies, two toy pistols, two silver plates with Interpol logo, five credit cards, a visiting card of an Interpol officer, 17 pictures of different persons wearing army uniform and caps, one nationality card of Oman, identity card of a Qatar army’s major ranking Interpol officer, identity card of a Bangladesh Special Branch officer and cash Tk 88,000. The detainees confessed to the RAB that, they used to take huge amount of money from people threatening them implicating in false cases.
Such activities of fake police or army officials are nothing new. The Detective Branch (DB) of Police (North) on June 12 detained four fake DB cops with a firearm, two bullets, and a microbus from Shah Ali area in the city. Police also recovered a foreign-made revolver, two bullets, one DB jacket, a pair of handcuffs, a wireless set, and a microbus from their possession.
The frauds who pose as fake policemen are often those who have been dismissed from police or other forces. For that, it is not possible for an ordinary man to identify who is real or who is fake police. We have seen involvement of real law enforcers also in various crimes, including robbing, dacoity, kidnapping and murder.
It is important that genuine police must keep themselves away from crime so that the people will regain full faith that no true crime can be committed by them.
