A workshop on Zinc rice grain value chain actors meeting was held on Tuesday at the Conference Room at Department of Agricultural Extension in Jashore by Bakerganj Forum with the generous support from Harvest Plus Bangladesh. Md. Shah Alam Hawlader Executive Director of Bakerganj Forum presided over the workshop. Mr. Md. Nuruzzaman, Deputy Director Department of Agricultural Extension was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Faridpur District Senior Marketing Officer Md. Rabiul Islam, Upazila Food Inspector MM Rakibul Hasan, HarvestPlus Bangladesh Divisional Coordinator Md. Zahid Hossain, HarvestPlus CBC Project Officer Mr. Md. Ruhul Quddus were present as special guests of the discussion meeting. The chief guest of the event highlighted the current status of zinc rice, market expansion and plans for commercialization of zinc rice in the upcoming days.
He addressed the market needs to ensure supply through branding as zinc rice and encourage consumers to consume it. The president of the program mentioned the benefits of zinc rice and urged everyone to eat zinc rice to fill the zinc deficiency.
The presented guests assured the overall support and cooperation of the new entrepreneurs of zinc rice. Approximately 50 representatives from various government and non-government sectors participated on the workshop and they agreed to work together for the expansion and commercialization of biofortified zinc rice.
