Commercial ducks rearing with assistance of livestock official makes poor and marginal farmers self-reliant in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura from last few years.
Before starting the business, the farmers of Gobindapur union were passing hard days with their family members elsewhere the region.
“All day long I was anxious for saving my family members well but got no exact way,” said farmer Samsul at Belail village under Dupchanchia upazila. He again said, “Later, I took decision to make a duck shed at my own concrete house and got a stair of overcoming extreme poverty.”
In a visit on Sunday the correspondent found a good number woman are passing busy to feed ducks along with male members of the extreme poor family. They are seen proving boiled rice to reduce production cost. The farmers do the business in a large scale and eradicate the curse of poverty.
New farm owners of Dupchanchia upazila are engaged to arrange ducks eggs trade, earning enough for living a moderate life in the river area. If they have been aided strongly, they would get an easy way of being wealthy.
Another farmer said, he started duck rearing borrowing Tk 40,000 from his relatives in simple condition last year. After a year, I become able to return the capital to his relative now he is in profitable situation.
Each fresh two KG weight duck is being sold at Tk 250 to 300. To produce a duck the farmer is to spend Tk 150 to 200, said farmers.
Deputy Director of district live stock said we encourage the root level farmers to bring more farms under duck rearing commercially. The farmers needs easy term loan facility to expand the business, he added.
