Commander Abdur Rauf, one of prime accused in the Agartala conspiracy case, died at 5 am yesterday at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here. He was 82.
Harun Habib, secretary general of Sectors Commanders Forum, confirmed the news. He will be buried at Banani military graveyard after second namaj-e-janaza at Mahakhali in the capital.
Earlier, his body was taken to his village home at
Bhairab in Kishoreganj from the CMH at around 1 pm on Friday. His first namaj-e-janaza was held at Bhairabpur Eidgah under Bhairab upazila after Jummah prayers.
In early 1968, the government of the then Pakistan framed charges against 35 concerned political personalities and high government officials under civil law.
The case implicated Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others for conspiring with India against the stability of Pakistan. The case is officially called State vs. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others, but is popularly known as Agartala Shorojontro Mamla (Agartala conspiracy case).
