Comilla Victorians posted a thrilling five-wicket victory over Chittagong Vikings in their Twenty20 cricket match of the 3rd Bangladesh premier League at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Thursday.
Sent into bat first, Chittagong Vikings made 136 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Comilla Victorians coasted home making 140 for the loss of five wickets remaining with two balls.
Comilla Victorians had a shaky start as they lost their opener Liton Das (3), who was caught at the mid-on by Ziaur Rahman off Taskin Ahmed when Comilla’s total was just three.
Then Imrul Kayes and Ahmed Shehzad repaired the early damage adding together 52 runs for the second wicket partnership before Imrul Kayes was caught behind by wicketkeeper Anamul Haque off TM Dilshan when Comilla’s score was 55 for the loss of two wickets.
Imrul Kayes made an impressive 35 from 28 balls with five fours.
After departure of Kayes, Ahmed Shehzad and Shoaib Malik added together 39 runs for the third wicket stand before Ahmed Shehzad was caught at the long-off by Ziaur Rahman off Bilawl Bhatti when Comilla’s total was 94 for the loss of three wickets.
Shehzad scored 37 from 41 balls including four fours.
Then Mohammad Amir dismissed Ashar Zaidi for eight and removed Shuvagata Hom for two.
Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten with 34. His 23-ball superb innings was belted with two fours and a sixer.
Mohammad Amir was the pick of Chittagong bowlers with two wickets.
Umar Akmal remained unbeaten with 49. His 42-ball innings was ornamented with four fours and two sixes.
TM Dilshan notched up a fine 39 from 42 balls featuring five fours.
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal hit a plucky 27 off 23 balls with three fours and a sixer.
Ziaur Rahman (2) was run out by the joint attempt of Liton Das and Abu Haider when Chittagong’s score was 131 for the loss of five wickets.
