Comilla Victorians thrashed Chattogram Challengers by 52 runs in their match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.
Sent into bat first, Comilla Victorians piled up a mammoth total of 183 for the loss of three wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then bundled out Chattogram Challengers for 131 runs off 17.3 overs.
Comilla Victorians had an unhappy start as opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy (1) was caught at the cover by Sabbir Rahman off Nasum Ahmed when Comilla’s score was just four.
After Joy’s dismissal, Liton Das and Faf du Plessis rescued their team from danger contributing together 80 runs for the second wicket partnership before Liton Das was caught at the long-off by Sabbir Rahman off Nasum Ahmed when Comilla’s total was 84 for the loss of two wickets.
Faf du Plessis remained unbeaten with 83. His 55-ball terrific innings was ornamented with three sixes and eight fours. Faf du Plessis was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Liton Das hit a polished 47. His 34-ball innings was belted with five fours and a six.
After Liton’s dismissal, Imrul Kayes arrived at the crease for a short period as he (1) was bowled out Benny Howell when Comilla’s score was 86 for the loss of three wickets.
After Imrul’s removal, Faf du Plessis and Cameron Delport salvaged their team from danger scoring together 97 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket stand before Comilla’s innings came to an end.
Delport remained unbeaten with 51. He hit three sixes and four fours in his 23-ball knock.
Nasum Ahmed bagged two wickets at the cost of 23 runs, while Benny Howell took one wicket conceding 31 runs.
Later, opener Will Jacks and Sabbir Rahman of Chattogram Challengers could able to build a notable partnership. They put on together 30 runs for the third wicket partnership before Sabbir Rahman ( 5) was caught at the mid-off by Imrul Kayes off Nahidul Islam when Chattogram’s score was 39 for the loss of three wickets.
Will Jacks was the only batter for Chattogram Challengers who made a respectable score. He hit a superb 69 from 42 deliveries featuring three sixes and seven fours.
Nahidul Islam grabbed three wickets in the space of 17 runs, while Mustafizur Rahman, Tanvir Islam and Shohidul Islam claimed two wickets each instead of 26, 33 and 34 runs respectively.
Karim Janat took one wicket for 18 runs.
