A Comilla court yesterday issued show cause notice to Dhaka Central Jail authorities to explain within 7 days why BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was not produced before it in an arson case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Arafat of Comilla Cognizance Court 5 issued the show cause on the Central Jail
The court also fixed April 8 for hearing on a bail petition of Khaleda Zia in the case.
Earlier, on March 13, the BNP Chief was shown arrested in the case. In the case she has been charged with instigating arson attack on a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla’s Chauddagram area. The incident left seven passengers dead and 25 to 30 others injured on February 3, 2015.
On March 14, the judge of the same court of Comilla rejected a bail petition of Khaleda Zia in the case. It may be remembered that after landing in the prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, she was shown arrested in the case. Besides, the court asked the jail authorities to produce Khaleda Zia before it in the case on March 28 (Wednesday).
The prison authorities of Dhaka have been asked to come forward with the explanation within the next seven days. Meanwhile, it has already been reported that BNP Chief Khaleda Zia is ill that kept her away from appearing before another trial court in Dhaka on Wednesday in connection to the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
