BSS, Dhaka :
Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam called upon all irrespective of party affiliation to come forward against rape and killing of children and women.
“Those involved in killings of children and women and rape would not be given any concession. They will be tried,” he said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking the 85th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib in the city.
Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Parishad organized the discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity with its President Prof. Dr. Syed Abdul Mannan Chowdhury in the chair.
State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Advocate Tarana Halim addressed the meeting as special guest.
Awami League Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, Agrani Bank Director Baloram Poddar, City AL Organizing Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Bangladesh Chhatra League President M Saifur Rahman Sohag and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Parishad General Secretary Abdus Salam Mridha took part in the discussion, among others.
The food minister said Bangabandhu’s son Sheikh Russel was killed on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975 and Ziaur Rahman stopped trial of that killing by getting an indemnity bill passed in the parliament. He appreciated BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s plan to visit London from August 12.
“It seems that good sense prevailed upon her. Begum Khaleda is paying for what she did on every martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu,” he added. Quamrul Islam says Begum Zia wants polls under any system. It seems that she has learnt a lesson, he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledge-bound to hold trial of every killing, he said and referred to the trial of Bishwajit and Jobayer killings. He said those involved in arson and anarchy will not be spared.
