Speakers at a programme on Sunday said that local government, NGOs and relevant actors can play an instrumental role in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We need to understand local perspective, needs, priorities and raise voice of the grassroots communities to influence the national policies and practices on SDGs, they said, terming localization of SDGs as one of the key challenges faced in Bangladesh.
They were addressing a national consultation on Localization and Implementation Challenges of SDGs in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) and Christian Aid, UK jointly organized the event at Daily Star Bhaban in the city.
SDGs were adopted at the UN General Assembly in 2015. It consists of 17 goals across the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development targeted to be achieved by 2030. The goals provide a framework for shared action for people, planet and prosperity. The actions will be implemented by all the countries and all stakeholders through collaborative partnership, the programme was told.
