Combined efforts for organ transplantation underscored

The Society of Organ Transplant Bangladesh (SOTB) with the help of Asian Society of Transplantation, Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network, Mohan Foundation of India and Korean Anam University was making combined efforts for organ transplantation in the country.
“SOTB was taking the initiative as a person can save lives of five others simultaneously by donating organs after death -one’s two kidneys could offer life to two people and his liver, lung and heart can save three others,” said President of the Society of Organ Transplant Bangladesh Prof Dr Harun-Ur-Rashid.
Dr Rashid said this on Sunday at the inaugural ceremony of the annual conference of SOTB and scientific seminar at Dr Milon Hall of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), said a press release.
Presided over by Prof Rashid, also the President of Kidney Foundation, the function was attended by BSMMU Vice-chancellor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, BSMMU Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Rafikul Alam, Prof Dr Shahana Akhter Rahman and Prof Dr Md Shahidullah Shikder.
The function was also addressed by SOTB General Secretary Prof Dr Habibur Rahman Dulal and Dr Touhid Mohammad Saiful Islam, among others.
The “Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Bill, 2018” will ease sufferings of patients and their relatives in organ transplantation, help physicians expand tertiary medical service and bring back a sound system in the health services, said the speakers.
Doctors of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM) also gave their consents on the initiative.
