Colourful Victory Day programmes taken in Rangpur

The district administration has taken colourful programmes to celebrate the Victory Day-2020 on Wednesday in the metropolis to pay rich tributes to martyred sons and daughters of the soil in a befitting manner.
The glorious day will be celebrated marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Mujib Year strictly abiding by the health directives in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), freedom fighters, political parties, educational institutions, sociocultural and professional organisations have taken daylong programmes marking the day. Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan said the law enforcement agencies have taken adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of Victory Day in the metropolis and in all upazila headquarters across the district.
The celebrations will begin with 31-gun salutes at Police Lines Ground followed by placing of wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’, Bangabandhu’s Mural and ‘Shahid Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ at different areas of the metropolis.
Simultaneously, the national flag will be hoisted atop all government, semi-government and private buildings with the sunrise on that day.
Officials of the divisional and district administrations, RpCC, Rangpur Range Police, RpMP, district police and former leaders of the district and city unit commands of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad will first place wreaths.
Later, different political parties, including Awami League (AL), heads of educational institutions, leaders of different socio-cultural, professional, business and human rights organisations, NGOs and commoners will place wreaths.
Meanwhile, the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings have already been illuminated and decorated with national flag, coloured miniature posters and banners creating a festive atmosphere in the metropolis.
Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local dailies, weeklies and online newspapers publish special supplements glorifying the day.
Improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shelters of older citizens, day-care and child centres, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars and vagabond centres.
Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.
The district administration will give flowers to freedom fighters at their respective houses and organise competitions on drawing, essay writing and poem recitation for children on the War of Liberation virtually.
The main virtual discussion on ‘Owning spirit of the War of Liberation and maximum use of digital technologies in realising Bangabandhu’s dream of building a Sonar Bangla and achieving national prosperity’ will be arranged at the District Collectorate Building.
With Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair, high officials, political leaders, professionals, freedom fighters, socio-cultural activists, educationists and civil society members will participate in the virtual discussion.
